Antique Victorian French Pastoral Scene Carved Bone Fan

Antique Victorian French Hand Painted Scene Elegantly Carved Ox Bone Brise Fan Eventail.

Beautiful antique ox bone brise fan dating from the Victorian era. Most likely made in France, the ox bone is joined together with ribbon towards the upper half, while a mother of pearl rivet holds the bottom together. The fan features a delicately hand painted scenic view on the front. These lightweight ox bone fans were wonderful to use during the warmer months and were easy to pack away for travel as they didn't take up too much space.

As you can see from the photos, an old repair was made to one of the guard sticks, a piece of pewter was fashioned in the exact shape of the guard stick and fitted where a fracture had occurred at one time. This must have been a much cherished piece for someone to go to the trouble of having it professionally fixed.

This would make a great feminine display on your vanity. The fan measures just over 6" long. It displays overall general wear from age and storage. Note there is some wear to the hand painted details on the fan and some broken off sticks (missing).

This would also make a beautiful wedding gift as it encompasses the traditional "old".
